Don Sullivan’s The Perfect Dog Review
This is where the problems occur.
First and foremost, let me get this out of the way. Don is a balanced trainer, but he is not the typical balanced trainer that we are used to seeing nowadays; balanced trainers these days often use positive training at first, and if it fails, only then they’ll enforce correction methods.
But Don only use ‘correction’ or ‘punishment based’ training, even though he is a balanced trainer; as you may know, studies have proven that punishments are not the way to train an animal.
It seems like he is a person that is not a fan of treat-based training and strictly follows the alpha-based training techniques.
The alpha theories are not bad by any means, But the way Don implements them is kinda dangerous, to be honest, and especially that collar, ouch!
The next thing is the training method, the methods in the programs are too old to today’s standards, basically outdated. I’m not the only one who’s saying this; many professional training organizations and even the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior have declared these methods are outdated.
Punishment Based Training can impact your dog in so many ways; it causes stress, fear, aggression and can also lead to new behavior problems plus worsens the existing problems.
And the next issue, the command collar designed by Don himself; this collar is basically a prong collar or a choke and pinch collar; you name it!
These tools are dangerous and are basically used to punish the poor soul that is your dog.
There are major disadvantages of using tools like this while training like:
- Paralysis
- Fainting
- Spinal Cord injuries
- And much, much more injuries.
You should be extra cautious when implementing this kind of item while training your dog; a simple mistake can put you in a lot of trouble.
And some people have stated that the collars broke while training, by the way, the collars are plastic.
Next up the videos; even though the whole program takes 5 hours to complete, the tutorials of each video are way less detailed and are not long enough; I have to watch it 3 or 4 times to get a clear understanding.

Does The Perfect Dog Training System Work?
I purchased this program personally to train my stubborn Beagle; before buying, I did my research, and most were saying that this is a great program and you would be able to see results in just weeks.
Don’s official website is flooded with positive reviews, and only after that, I decided to invest in this program.
But no one mentioned that he uses punishment training methods, prong collar, that kind of stuff.
Only after getting the system, I came to know all this. After seeing that collar itself, I decided to return the program back.
I never tried out this program; as a dog owner, I would never use punishment methods to train my dog.
While I tried to return the program, the customer service said that I should bear the payments of return shipping and exchange shipping too.
And the other thing is that most others like me who bought this program have received at least one broken DVD, and the same goes for them too.
Which is awful…
The next thing is that the customer service took three days to respond to my email, so I decided to keep the program myself, and that is where I found everything about Don Sullivan and his way of training dogs.
So I decided to write this review to let you guys know what this system is all about.
And the most fascinating thing I found is that even after paying for the system, some people have stated that they never received it.
Pros
- The luxury of training at home and at our own pace.
- Great for owners who love to punish their dogs.
Cons
- The built quality of the collar is not great.
- Awful customer service.
- Some methods of training can be hard to understand.
- Return and exchange shipping WOES!
However, I decided to purchase another training program, and that’s what we’re going to take a look at next.
Is There a Better Alternative to Don Sullivan’s Dog training?
Yes, there is!
It’s not better; it’s way better; this is the kind of program I’ve been waiting to train my dog.
This one is a pretty popular program, and I think you may know it. It’s Brain Training for dogs, which uses science-based techniques and does not use any destruction items or any training device that’ll completely affect your dog’s temperament.
It is 100/% safe through and through.
But it’s a bit expensive coming in at $67, but you get so much in return.
Here’s a sneak peek of what you get for $67:
First of all, this is an e-book; however, you’ll also get 21 high-quality dog training videos, with loads of obedience training, trick training, and lots more.
Just make sure to click here to get to know all about Brain Training for dogs; this is where I found out about this program too.

Over To You
Don’s course is just awful in every way; it can be seen straight from how they take care of their customers.
This kind of training can only harm your dog; using a command collar and stuff is simply not the way to address a dog’s behaviour; however, the decision is up to you.
The training method is flooded with way too many faults and should never be used on a dog.
Anyways make sure to take a look at Brain Training For Dogs which is a great all-around training program that’s more than safe to train dogs.
