Havahart Wireless Dog Fence Review [2024 Upd.] Does it Work?

Last Updated on October, 2024

I spent months looking for ways to keep my dog safe while giving him the freedom he deserves; I visited every pet store, explored the internet, and read every article I could find on the subject in an effort to find an acceptable answer.

Moreover, after conducting a lot of research, I discovered the Havahart wireless dog fence, which, in accordance with their marketing, had some fascinating qualities. [Little did I know]

I bought it, tried it out for a couple of months, didn’t like it, didn’t like it at all.

And there are valid reasons for that. If you’ve been thinking of purchasing the Havahart Wireless Dog Fence, read this review before you make a decision.

The Good

Because of the signal stability of Havahart wireless systems, the containment boundary will essentially remain in place without moving.

It also has a very unique transmitter feature, it will immediately begin to produce an audible warning as soon as your dog reaches the perimeter of the authorized play area, alerting you to the situation.

The receiver on the collar will go into sleep mode if the collar does not move for a while, conserving energy. As soon as your dog / the collar moves, the receiver awakes automatically.

The Not So Good

First of all, the collar, it’s not waterproof or even resistant, which is a huge bummer as a mere splash can put the collar that’s over $100 worth to waste. I’ve never seen collars of wireless pet fences that can’t withstand water, but here we are and they’ve not even mentioned that.

Battery on the other hand is downright awful, it cannot even last a full 10 hours, mine consistently died at the 6 to 7 hour mark, which is not good news.

The claimed coverage is up to a whopping 25 acres, but in reality, it does even reach the quarter of that, mine had difficulties to even cover 1.5 acres.

These downsides itself make the device worthless, but there’s more, continue reading.

The Bottom Line

Although this is one of the cheapest products that you could find in the market, I wouldn’t recommend you to buy it. Would you get a collar that breaks with just splashes of water or a collar that does not even last half a day?

You can be intimidated by various facts you see on the internet but trust me, it’s not worth it. Instead check out Halo 2+, it offers a much better service as you require. [Check ‘Better Alternative’ for more information]

Havahart Wireless Dog Fence on the table

After doing all the groundwork of installing the fence, install the rechargeable batteries to the collar and get it up on your dog’s neck. [Train your dog according to the guide and Youtube tutorials and teach him regarding the boundary lines and all the limitations.]

Whenever a dog wearing the receiver collar approaches the containment boundary close enough for a correction to be delivered, the Havahart main control unit will sound a clearly audible Boundary Challenge alarm, immediately notifying your dog of the situation.

You can manually configure the volume levels of this alarm using the main unit settings as well.

Features You Should Know About Havahart Radial Shape 2

Coverage Area

Havahart radial shape is known to cover up to 25 acres, but unfortunately, I couldn’t fence in more than 1.5 acres.

Havahart radial shape 2, will have merely a 0.4 foot boundary instability, and that’s despite the radius of the containment area being over three times as big (700 ft diameter).

Havahart Radial Shape Receiver Collar

It comes with a comfortable collar that houses a battery that’s rechargeable.

The collar can be programmed to a tone-only mode or static correction mode.

There are up to 5 levels of static correction available (plus sound-only correction for training and testing).

There is no need to fiddle with the receiver collar because there are no buttons there; instead, levels are changed directly from the in-house control unit (the transmitter) via the control panel.

Havahart Wireless Dog Fence collar

The neck size of the collar can be varied according to your dog’s size, it can vary from 14 – 26 inches . Use long probes if your dog is more extensive and has a thick coat; if you’ve got smaller dogs, use short probes.

Their systems’ control units can only accommodate a maximum of two dogs, which means you can only operate two collars simultaneously. Only one collar will be included in your bundle; the additional one must be purchased separately.

Design wise the collar has a quick-snap lock that makes it quick and simple to fit properly around your dog’s neck.

Collar is featured with probes, long Probes for thick or long-haired breeds and Short Probes for short-haired dogs.

Trigger Zone

This wireless fence offers the decisive advantage of an expanded trigger zone. It is located at the edge of the roaming area, forming the fence boundary.

Correction is triggered by your dog crossing into the trigger zone, which can be set to a tone-only mode or a static correction.

  • Wider trigger zone

Havahart dog fence is specifically designed with a wider trigger zone which helps you to keep your dogs safe within the boundaries you set within your premises, restricting your pets from leaving the yard.

  • Exclusion trigger zone

Allows you to keep your dogs out of designated areas of your yard. It acts as a fence to your garden, pool, playset, etc.

Battery Life

According to the manual, battery life is supposed to last for 12 hours, however, it only lasts for about 6 hours or so while the dog is active. Each dog collar with a Havahart system comes with two rechargeable batteries..

Changing the battery twice a day was super annoying.

Note; The collar should always be ‘ON’ when installing a fully charged battery. Integrated motion sensor technology lets the collar conserve battery runtime by putting the collar to sleep.

A gentle shake will awaken the collar, and the light will flash green.

The collar light will flash red to indicate your rechargeable battery needs a recharge. The transmitter will also produce a tone to you when the battery life is low.

Price, Warranty and the Refund Policy of the Havahart Wireless Dog Fence

This is really one of the more affordable choices on the market; you can get the item on Amazon for $119.99 excluding shipping.

Their entire line of wireless dog fences is covered by a dual product warranty, the main control unit is covered by a 10-year guarantee (the transmitter) and a 12-month guarantee on the collar and all other fence-related components.

And the fence is backed with a 30-day return policy.

Havahart Wireless Dog Fence Reviews From Customers

Is this the best wireless dog fence in the market? Let’s find out from those who have used this system.

I’ve been digging through their testimonials and found loads of negative comments and just a few positive comments.

Here are some of the testimonials for your reference;

This customer too had a nightmare of an experience by the looks of it.

Mentioned below is one of my favorite comments. Although it’s a negative comment, it cracked me wide open. I laughed so hard after reading this review. Here’s a small part of it:

Havahart Wireless Dog Fence Customer comment

Funny right?

All jokes aside, after reading these reviews, I questioned whether I should purchase this system. But I did it anyway. And I kid you not; I regretted buying it. Like all the reviews I read, this system was a failure. The setup was complex.

Let me just give you one example; the four wireless transmitter/receivers are 10 * 4 * 1 and must sit on a wall near the corners of your house six feet off the ground.

Each transmitter must plug into the wall outlet, and the central base unit must be attached to your computer for the system to work correctly.

Complicated! Complicated! Complicated!

Is it Worth Investing in a Havahart Dog Fencing System?

Even though you receive a set of instructions on how to set it up, the Havahart dog fence installation process is one of the most difficult.

I started to doubt the product’s dependability while also realizing that the Havahart collar is not waterproof. There’s no way you can rely on it.

You can get a stable signal connection to your wireless fence, true, but it’s only up to a certain level. You can not use this on your large yards and anticipate a steady signal connection.

Battery is another nerve-wrecking piece of the device, this thing just doesn’t last long enough. You’ll need to charge it at least two times a day. Which is just awful.

Even while it is less expensive than other wireless dog fences, the service is not significantly better; in other words, you don’t get much for your money.

And there’s an unlimited number of failures in this system.

Is this the best option for you? For your dogs?

Pros and Cons of Havahart Wireless Fencing System

Pros

A wireless Fencing system
You can customize the boundary according to your will
It has four static correction levels

Cons

Installation is complicated
Expensive
Have to replace the batteries at least twice a day
To use this system, the terrain must be flat
Havahart radial shape is known to cover up to 25 acres, but unfortunately, I couldn’t fence in more than 1.5 acres. According to reviews, it is a common problem for all the Havahart radial shape two users. Do not get intrigued and get your hopes up to cover up a larger space. It is impossible!
Unlike any other collar, Havahart does not include a waterproof collar, so your dog can not wear this anywhere there’s water, even the slightest

Other Dog Fence Review:

Conclusion; Is Havahart Wireless Dog Fence the Spend?

Let me state it clearly right away: despite their claims to the contrary, Havahart is not trustworthy. There may be a few features that are user-friendly for both you and your dog, but there will also be a ton of difficulties that you must deal with.

Halo 2+ is a perfect solution for your dog if it likes to roam around everywhere. You may want to keep your four-legged companion safe and sound as a pet lover. Trust me, this is the best way of doing so.

FAQs

The claimed runtime is 2 to 3 days, but in reality, you can expect the collar to last at least 10 hours with a single charge.

Since the device has a transmitter, it’s not fair to say that it’s portable. There are wireless fences that are much more portable than this.

The Havahart Wireless Radial is intended for dogs weighing more than 8 pounds.
