Robert Cabral’s Online Dog Training Review: Does it Work?

Last Updated on October, 2024

My Boxer and Labrador were growing up, and I knew I had to go for dog training.

It didn’t take long until I finally landed a possible solution – Robert Cabral’s online dog training. The marketing team had done a splendid job pitching it. But did I buy it straight away?

No, I can’t waste money in this economy.

So, I carefully analyzed the training, so you don’t have to go through the trouble of doing the research or testing it yourself.

After all, I’m a dog parent; I want any dog to have the best.

Why Choose An Online Course Over Real-World Training?

A Girl & a Dog watching something in a laptop

Training a dog is a necessity (and it goes without saying). So, you can hire a professional dog trainer for real-world sessions or pick an online course.

Whichever solution you pick, it MUST be coordinated (and designed) by a qualified trainer.

However, my recommendation is to choose an online course. Why so?

  1. One-on-one training sessions cost at least $200-$300 per hour
  2. Your dog might be highly anxious about the ‘training arena’ setting
  3. Being mutually available for schedules is a bit difficult
  4. Save time AND gas
  5. Fewer distractions for both you and the dog
  6. Rewatch and reread training content

If there are any, virtual dog training’s downsides are pretty much negligible.

So, Robert’s training plan qualified with the entry requirements. But that’s only as a program.

This was when I started getting into the details. Finally, what I found out was enough to make a decision.

Here are other recommended reviews:

My First Impression on Robert Cabral As a Dog Parent

I’m your average middle-aged struggling dog parent from the digital generation. So, of course, I looked him up on YouTube, and there he was.

Robert is a big man (at LEAST twice as big as I am). “Is he ex-military?” That’s what my girlfriend asked.

So then, I dove into a few videos of him demonstrating his methods.

The man’s a great trainer; that’s a fact. In each video, he manages to train dogs of different sizes and breeds with almost no help.

Robert Cabral and a dog

So that, my friend right there, is an experienced dog trainer.

I really thought his YT videos reflected how he delivered his course content. From his YT channel, I followed a link to his website, robertcabral.com

What did I find there? Let’s find out.

What Does He Offer? How EXACTLY Does it Benefit You?

I have broken down this section into 3 key areas. These are such as,

  1. Robert’s training content from A to Z in his course
  2. How the community and communication works
  3. Pricing, enrollment, and refund policy of the program

This covers EVERYTHING you need to know about this program. That’s more than enough to justify the decision I made eventually.

So, let’s get right into it.

Robert’s Training Content From A to Z

His website immediately gets into the subject; it asks what you’re looking for. For example, is it for behavioral issues, or is it because of obedience issues?

Behavioral issues are at the primary level, and obedience issues are at the advanced level, the course’s two levels.

The (Basic-level) Behavioral Issues

So, I clicked on behavioral issues. Here are the six main areas that this level will cover.

  • Dog walking YOU (instead of you walking the dog)

I could definitely relate to this problem. Especially with my Boxer because he’s a bit of a stronger boy. So, I liked seeing that one primary concern was being addressed.

  • Issues regarding aggression

Some dogs are agitated by the slightest distraction. Excessive barking, unreasonable fearful behavior, and even quick loss of attention to commands are some results of this. My Lab does have a barking issue, but it’s not as bad as my Boxer’s aggression sometimes.

  • Problems with puppies

My Lab is not a pup technically. But he does have some chewing issues as a dog. So on the flip side, I may not even know the underlying problems. However, if your pet is a pup, Robert can take care of it.

  • Refusing to come back

Training dogs to respond to their names is a hassle. Not only should they be taught to realize the command is for them, but they should also know what it means.

Dogs that don’t know what commands mean won’t react as expected. Robert’s training seems to address this issue as well.

  • Dog being frustrated

We all have our bad days. But can we really let it slide if a dog is frustrated and dull almost always? We cannot. I don’t want my Lab to live like Boxer? This issue is usually disregarded, so it’s admirable how Robert is aware of it.

  • Jumping on guests

THIS pretty much sealed the deal for me (but no, I wasn’t completely convinced to buy yet). Most dog parents train dogs to cut back on jumping on guests on their command. Because what’s the point if a random guest could control your dog?

I personally thought that Robert laid down a solid foundation for the second level — obedience.

The (Advanced-level) Dog Obedience

I told you how Robert knows what he’s doing. He has training materials to ready your dog for contests. Or, the advanced level is handy for dog parents needing more training.

Here are some of the notable training areas he covers:

  • Heeling secrets
  • Perfect stay under distractions
  • Scent work
  • Stay (Out of sight)
  • Down in motion

After that, we should look at the benefits of the lessons. They can are pinpointed as follows;

  1. Over 150+ lessons are designed to cover both basic and advanced levels
  2. 24/7 access to the content, so training is always convenient for YOU
  3. Access isn’t tiresome and is almost instantaneous
  4. Recommended training products, so you don’t have to search for the best
  5. Regularly uploaded videos so the content you can choose from increases

I personally liked how full the course looked, for sure. However, as a dog parent, I know there’s a lot of training content, and the delivery is based on two levels.

So the next area is community and communication. So that was pretty interesting as well.

How the Community and Communication Works?

The community is based on his website. Think of it as a derivative of Facebook; you’ve got a profile, and you can even comment in the members’ area. Of course, you can also reach out to Robert for one-on-one chats.

So, the communication and community area are pretty strong. But I kept wondering whether I needed that community. Maybe it’s just me.

Pricing, Enrollment, and Refund Policy of the Program

Rober Cabral’s dog training program is an auto-renewing subscription program. If you go for the monthly subscription, it’s $15 (Yes, I consider $14.95 as $15).

The yearly subscription is $130, which is mathematically cheaper if you train the dog for a year.

So, the enrollment is pretty straightforward like that — and there’s a refund policy also that must be done within 72 hours. But you cannot watch more than 3 video lessons if you want a refund. But there’s no cancellation fee as well.

So this is everything you need to know about Robert Cabral’s dog training course.

Now, let’s look at his strong points of being a trainer and his course.

Robert’s Strong Points (As I See Them)

Robert Cabral in a dog training session
  • The first strong point is how THOROUGH his training content is; there are A LOT of resources to use. He’s an experienced dog trainer.
  • The second is how ORGANIZED his content and training are. Everything happens on the website, and that’s convenient in a way. You also can TRACK your progress, which is neat.
  • The third is how his training has two levels. This prepares the dog for more advanced training.
  • The fourth is how new training content is said to be added regularly. So, you can obviously learn more.
  • The presence of community forums is the fifth one. Although you shouldn’t follow recommendations from another dog parent, at least you can get a glimpse of their problems too.

There’s probably more, but I’m sure these are the most vital points. So, we need to look at how bad the cons are.

So, Is Robert’s Training Course Worth it?

The conclusion is that I can’t recommend Robert’s training program. It’s not worth the price.

I told you that I analyzed everything for you.

I did it for myself in the first place so you’ll realize how these points make sense.

Robert’s training course has 4 fundamental flaws. No matter how much I tried, I couldn’t see a way to accept them as they are.

not recommended tag

1. Subscription method

I immediately felt I’d have to rush if I needed to save money. Most Boxers aren’t the easiest to train. On the other hand, not all of us have all the time in the world.

What would happen if I needed just three months and one day? Would I pay for the 4th month because of the auto-renewal?

So, that definitely was the first fundamental issue I noticed.

2. Robert’s METHOD of training

The second one is his method.

Robert is a successful trainer. But I felt as if a part of his success is because of his personality. I’m not as big as he is; I probably can’t intimidate a Boxer. So, I kept asking myself, ‘Are the dogs obeying him out of fear?’

I saw his website stating how his methods were reward-based. But the more videos I watched, the more I felt the approach was a bit forceful. So I wondered if it had to be that forceful and punishment-based approach.

It was as if the dog’s wanted everything to end as soon as possible. I know I don’t want that.

3. Everything is on the website.

To me, the third flaw was how his training content was linked to the website — no hard copies whatsoever. It kind of made me feel as if Robert was quite the materialistic entrepreneur, over an affectionate Dog trainer.

It’s easy, sure, but I felt it would be much more convenient if the content were detached from the website. That way, the tracking, and forum could be the website’s purpose.

4. Possible unrelatable content

The fourth issue is interconnected to the subscription problem. Some of Robert’s training lessons seemed unnecessary for my pets.

So, I asked myself; how relatable is the content? Is Robert trying to get me to stay longer in the course? How do I figure out what’s TRULY needed? What if I wasted valuable time off the course trying to find the relevance?

As a closing note, I’m not saying the course is a scam; he has multiple customer reviews, he IS a trainer. But, his methods and the course’s characteristics didn’t seem very beneficial to me.

But I couldn’t stop there, could I? So, I moved on from Robert’s plan.

And then, I found it.

Recommended Alternative Option (And Why That?)

With a few more clicks, I landed on braintraining4dogs.com, and how I felt was completely different from how I felt on Robert’s homepage. Why?

Instead of an intimidating man and a strong K9, there’s a cute little Basset pup on a chessboard!

I felt as if whoever did this knew the language of love.

Brain Training for Dogs Program

The website’s heading talks about developing hidden intelligence while eliminating bad behavior.

THAT’S A JACKPOT!

This course was developed by a professional CPDT-KA certified dog trainer named Adrienne Farricelli. It reminded me of a flaw of Robert that I didn’t even know existed; he didn’t have any certification.

Her website reminded me of the photo I took with my girlfriend and two pups. So, what did I find?

I found everything I needed, just the way I was expecting.

What Makes Adrienne’s Course Better Than Robert’s?

Why don’t we compare from the same areas I reviewed Robert’s plan?

  • Training content
  • Community and communication
  • Pricing, enrollment, and refunding policy

Training Content

BrainTraining4Dogs immediately looked superior to me since it didn’t just cover everything Robert’s course did. It covers so much more.

  • I didn’t see potty training, impulse control, and digging issues. This course has that.

Robert’s course had only two levels in organizing and delivering his course content. But Adrienne’s online course has 7 modules; 7 gradual steps. These are the levels;

  1. Module 1: Pre-School
  2. Module 2: Elementary School
  3. Module 3: High School
  4. Module 4: College
  5. Module 5: University
  6. Module 6: Graduation
  7. Module 7: Einstein

Let’s take a detailed look at them.

Level 1 is PRE-SCHOOL and the foundation of the course. It focuses on containing the dog’s attention, maintaining eye contact, and introducing a new game named ‘airplane’.

The game is designed to shift the attention of the dog to a moving object.

Hell, I was having fun READING it.

Module 2 is ‘Elementary school’. The purpose of this level is to use that retained attention to complete commands (just look at how well-structured this is!).

She plans on playing games such as the treasure hunt game, the muffin game, and even the ball pit game.

The 3rd level is ‘High school’. This level is all about patience and impulsive control (just like our high school life). Jazz up and settle down, the bottle game, and even bobbing for treats handles this stage.

The 4th module is ‘College’. At Adrienne’s dog’s college level, the dog’s motor skills and his ability to concentrate on your commands are polished.

For this, she uses the shell game, the open sesame game, and even the magic carpet game.

Module #5 is called the ‘University’ stage, where a dog’s intelligence is focused. Hide and seek (both traditional and by treats), the look-at-that game. and the hot-and-cold games are used to complete the expected competencies.

The 6th module is named ‘Graduation’. Here, your dog will develop advanced motor skills and intelligence to obey your commands.

Advanced leg-weaving skills, the serpentines and spirals game, and the name game for toys are used in this level.

I thought things would end here. But no, there’s the last stage.

The 7th and last stage is ‘Einstein’. Now that your dog is ‘graduated’, this is the stage where he can impress himself. The tidy-up game, the ring stackers game, and play the piano on cue game are planned for this stage.

Her content doesn’t stop there.

You also get a trick training set including videos for:

  • Take a bow
  • Cover his eyes
  • Dance
  • Shake hands
  • Howl
  • Play dead
  • Roll over

So, are we done with her training content? No. She’s got more coming!

With Obedience-101 training, you get:

  1. Inside secrets for using food luring
  2. The critical element to make your dog sit/ lie down/ take or leave items
  3. Case studies from 100+ dogs.

And the content doesn’t even stop there! The best thing is that none of these are irrelevant. I had already heard about using games and this course proved it.

The next set of content is called Adrienne’s Archives. This includes:

  • 100+ in-depth articles about behavioral problems
  • An entire section dedicated to puppy training

As I scrolled down, there was more.

But, this is how her training content can be summarized:

  1. Gradual training course consisting of 7 core modules
  2. 7-trick-training module (Additional)
  3. Obedience 101 training module (Additional)
  4. Post-training polishing up the module (Additional)
  5. Adrienne’s Archives (Additional)
  6. AND more…

Community And Communication

Community and communication are pretty much the same as Robert’s method — private forums, online member’s area, and direct contact with Adrienne.

Pricing, Enrollment, And Refunding Policy

I was convinced that Adrienne’s course content was probably a few times bigger than Robert’s. But that’s not all; they all seemed quite relevant for dog training.

So, I presumed she also handles clients with monthly subscriptions. That gives time to complete all the areas of training. I expected a decent $60-$75 monthly subscription.

I was wrong.

EVERYTHING comes for a one-time fee of just $67! I read it over and over again to make sure whether there was a hidden fee. But, no! It’s a one-time fee.

Enrollment is pretty straightforward; you just have to click a button.

Lastly, I looked at the refund policy. She’s so confident that she’s only asking for a quick email, and you get your money, no questions asked. That’s the kind of reassurance I was expecting in 60 days.

Why is This the Better Alternative?

Because it’s the plan, I eventually bought it. And, I didn’t have to get a refund. But I want to pinpoint why exactly this is a better alternative than Robert’s training plan.

  • Robert’s content is less and felt not so applicable. Adrienne’s content is much larger, updated, and quite relevant.
  • Robert’s approach is punishment-based and rather forceful. All of Adrienne’s methods are force-free and reward-based.
  • Robert’s plan has only two stages. BrainTraining4Dogs has 7 gentle steps for your cute pup.
  • Robert’s subscription is much more expensive in every single way. Meanwhile, you can use Adrienne’s training content for as long as possible.
  • I didn’t see any professional qualifications in Robert. Adrienne is a professional CPDT-KA certified dog trainer.
  • MOST IMPORTANTLY, Adrienne’s training method is based on the root cause of the problems. It’s not a one-for-all program.
brain training for dogs review

Apart from that, her website is filled with reviews addressing how bespoke her training is.

The Takeaway

The success of dog training depends more on the method if the content weight is equivalent.

Based on that, and with numerous positive reviews, and seeing results with my own eyes, I’m glad I chose Adrienne’s braintraining4dogs course.

If you can get all of the wisdom, and her personal training for just $67, it’s a cost-effective bargain. As a dog parent, it’s my pleasure to share my experience using braintraining4dogs with you.

If you liked what you read, be sure to leave a comment. Also, don’t forget to share this with your family and friends; their dogs deserve the best too.
